One of my dear friends on this trip, Nayane, has been wearing a feminist shirt that bothers me. It prominently displays the statement that follows,
A wise man once said
"I don't know
ask a girl"
Now, I'm all for girl power (you know, as long as it doesn't leave the kitchen). This shirt, however, bothers me a lot. I actually even find it very funny. What young Susan B. Anthony didn't realize that she has no concept of English when she created the shirt? Any English book will tell you to put commas before quotation marks. Any English teacher will tell you to put a semi-colon between two independent thoughts, and where is the punctuation to end the sentence? This is how the shirt should look according to grammer.
A wise man once said,
"I don't know;
ask a girl."
What bothers me the most about this inflammatory shirt is that this sex is supposed to be quite skilled in their use of language. You always hear these females jabbering about something. How can they not realize their shirt about girl power does not convey girl power; rather, it conveys girl incompetence? Oh well.
I'm sure I will get a letter from N.O.W. for this,
Hoss

You go Josh!!
hoss, you're a funny boy. it struck me too that that shirt was w/o punctuation marks, however, i did not dwell on it like only you can. :) have a great time with the mississippi group. can't wait to talk to you about it when you get home!
"This is how the shirt should look according to grammer."
I find this post to be hilariously ironic/hypocritical. GrammAr is spelled with two a's. Although, I agree with you. I'm all for girl power inside the kitchen [although I can hold my own].
You spelled grammar wrong! HEHE
I believe a female perspective can give you men some insight. Although I am not a feminist I do want to add that the creator (female or male) of this shirt may have eliminated the other punctuation in order to save shirt ink money. More people would be likely to buy the shirt at a few cents cheaper price from saving the ink. Hoss, I do like your shirt better.
hoss, update your blog
Josh, I hope you don't find this too creepy or strange... but I was reading your blog after clicking on other people interested in Honduras, and I just found what you wrote to be so amazingly true. You must be an english major or minor because you write so well. I have been to Honduras twice before and am going back for this next spring semester - the people there are exactly as you say. God is able to work in some pretty amazing ways though, huh? He definitely opened my eyes while I was down there and He continues to do so. Ok, so I don't know why I felt like writing to you even though I don't know you... but I was in a typing mood and I love Honduras and I LOVE what you had to say about it. It's a WONDERFUL country full of WONDERFUL people, isn't it?
Grammer=Grammar
okay, i'd like to clear up some confusion that seems to cloud aroun the word "feminism" and "feminist." you do not have to be a feminazi or spice girl to believe in feminism, or to be a feminist. anyone who believes that women and men deserve equal rights, instead of putting EITHER on a pedastal, is a feminist. that's all there is to it.
you need to update you journal HOSS
